Why offshore software development is not preferred compared to nearshore and onshore?
Time Zone Differences: Time zone differences are one of the main reasons why companies are reluctant to reach out to top offshore outsourcing software development companies. Many companies work within a 5 to 12-hour difference from their customers.
→ How to solve this: Since they have to adjust their schedules to accommodate their clients, you might have your projects due faster and sooner than the deadlines without compromising the quality. Make sure to set up daily, or weekly, or fortnightly meetings to keep all stakeholders up-to-date.
Communication and language: It is usually safe to assume that you’ll have to communicate with people whose English is not their first language when working with a team from a different country.
→ How to solve this: This is 2021, out of the world’s approximately 7.8 billion inhabitants, 1.35 billion speak English. Amongst them, only 360 million are native speakers, that’s 4.6 percent of the total English speakers. And frankly speaking, assuming that the communication with the native speakers will be more fluent is a quite unilateral argument and underestimate others’ ability to acquire one language, I would say. My advice? Get out there, talk to people, get to know them, and let the conversation flows.
Culture and social differences: Not only language is one barrier, culture and social differences also affect the software development project.
→ How to solve this: Isn’t that the beauty of globalization? So what if one software outsourcing company in, let’s say Vietnam, takes up to 10 days off? Or an Indian agency has 16 public holidays yearly? That’s their culture! As long as they can fulfill their tasks on deadlines, what’s the problem?
So, in general, what I want to say is that don’t let those assumptions of working with offshore development centers stop you from reaching out to the global talent pool, explore new cultures, and make international connections! Let me know what you think in the comment down below!
