2022년 현재 정규 7집을 통해 봤을 때, 회춘이라는 말이 어울릴 정도의 역량이 회복됐다. 본인이 7년 만에 활동을 재개했고, 이 동안 목을 회복한 것으로 보인다. 예전같았으면 특유의 반가성으로 올렸을 음들을 진성으로 무자비하게 때려박아버릴 정도로 진성의 질이 올라갔으며, 목소리 또한 굉장히 깨끗하고 안정적이다. 누구나 집이라는 소중한 보금자리가 있다. 누구에게는 편히 쉴 수 있는 공간 또, 어떤이에게는 힘든 공간일수도… 살아가면서 집이라는 울타리속에서 우리는 희망, 사랑, 슬픔, 고뇌를 느끼며 때로는 포근한 곳이기도… 때로는 뛰쳐나가고 싶은 공간 일 때가 있다. 그러한 인간 내면의 여러가지 이야기를 담은 1막 [집을 나서며…] 2번 트랙 타이틀 곡 [여행자]는 눈을 뜨면 매일 처음 가보는 길을 가는, 마치 여행자처럼…살고있는게 인생일거란 생각에 만들어진 곡이다. 안개같은 인생의 두려움을, 나만 보는 내 속마음을, 얘기했다. ‘비상'을 만든 최준영이 작곡을 맡았으며, 80년대 팝/락 스타일을 현대적인 감각으로 재해석하여 임재범의 보이스컬러와 매칭하였다. 기획 단계부터 아날로그 사운드를 내기 위해 컨셉을 뚜렷하게 했으며 화려한 테크닉보단 감성을 전달하는데 포커스를 맞췄다. 너를 위해', '비상' 등 임재범의 수많은 히트곡에 참여한 작사가 채정은이 이번 [여행자]에서 의기투합하여 작사에 힘을 보탰으며, Elton John, Pink Floyed, The Smiths, Coldplay의 마스터링을 맡은 영국 Abbey Road Studio의 ‘Frank Arkwright’가 현대적인 락 사운드로 마무리하였다. ‘비상’ 이후 다시 만난 두 작품자와 임재범의 콜라보로 만나는 ‘여행자’는 또 어떤 울림으로 메아리 되어 돌아올까… 임재범 (Yim Jae Beum) - 여행자 (Traveler) MV (Behind.Ver)
