On June 12, Lexus officially launched the new generation of the Lexus NX online, which is based on the Toyota TNGA architecture and features significant changes to both the exterior and interior compared to the current model. It is worth mentioning that the new vehicle will also be the first Lexus model to be equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, further accelerating the electrification process of the brand and adapting to the current changes and development of automobiles.
In terms of appearance, the new generation of Lexus NX is built with the latest design concept and offers two design styles, the regular version and the F Sport. Specifically, the regular version still adopts the family's signature spindle grille design, which is filled with black bars and the entire grille is very flat and nearly vertical. The new shape of the headlights is outlined by sharp lines, with arrow-shaped daytime running lights, further enhancing the sharp effect. In addition, the fog lamp area has a very three-dimensional shape and is wrapped by a "C" shape trim on the outer edge, in which the round fog lamps are located.
On the other hand, the grille of the F Sport version is decorated with a black diamond-shaped mesh structure, and the air deflector in the fog lamp area is larger in size, making it look even more sporty.
On the side, the roof of the new generation Lexus NX has a very smooth curved design, with the rising window line between the C and D pillars, making the overall look very dynamic, while the segmented waistline is used on the body, and the overall shape is like a three-dimensional cut. In addition, the front and rear wheelheads are slightly protruding, with a bit of a wide-body effect. The new car's wheel specifications have also been improved, and will be provided with 18-inch and 20-inch wheels according to different configurations, while the wheels on the current model are only 17-inch and 18-inch.
In terms of body dimensions, thanks to the empowerment of the TNGA architecture, the new generation Lexus NX has a length, width and height of 4660/1865/1640mm and a wheelbase of 2690mm, with the exception of the body height, the rest of the car is larger than the current model on sale. For reference, the length, width and height of the current Lexus NX are 4640/1845/1645mm and the wheelbase is 2660mm.
At the rear, the new car adopts the popular through-tail lamp design, and the left and right sides of the lamp cavity also have an "L" type lamp belt, which is expected to be very recognizable when lit. Another major change at the rear of the car is the replacement of the traditional logo with the "LEXUS" English brand logo. In addition, the new rear surround is also equipped with folded corner imitation deflector holes on both sides, echoing the front. As for the bottom decorations, they are adjusted according to the different style versions, with the F Sport model adding a running chrome strip for a more sporty feel.
In terms of the interior, the new generation of Lexus adopts the "Tazuna Reins Concept Cockpit" design, and the center console uses many straight lines to make it look more angular. In terms of creating a sense of technology, the new car is equipped with a full LCD meter and a large similar inverted trapezoid-style suspended center screen, and the screen is slightly tilted to the driver's side, creating a stronger desire to drive. The three-spoke multifunction steering wheel has also been redesigned, with a more regular arrangement of buttons on the left and right control areas, and chrome elements added.
The debut of the brand's next-generation product lineup, the new-generation Lexus NX is equipped with e-Latch intelligent electronically controlled doors, which enables intelligent electronic control of door opening and locking, as well as the Advanced Park Intelligent Parking System, which are all configurations first applied to Lexus models. The new generation of LSS+ Lexus Intelligent Safety System is also not absent and will provide users with a safer car experience.
In terms of power, the new generation of Lexus NX will offer three major power forms: fuel, hybrid and plug-in hybrid. The fuel model is equipped with a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine, while the hybrid system and plug-in hybrid system also consist of a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine, although the specific power parameters are not yet known. In addition, as the brand is fully transformed to electrification, the configuration models equipped with plug-in hybrid and hybrid systems are expected to occupy the majority of the entire vehicle lineup.
Summary: As the Lexus brand's mid-size luxury SUV, the first generation of the Lexus NX was officially launched at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. The car also caught the wind of the rapid development of SUVs, and sales once exceeded demand. However, with the increase in the frequency of model updates and the influx of new models, the current Lexus NX is not as competitive as before in terms of technology configuration, interior space or power performance, which has gradually put it at a disadvantage in the competition with its competitors. But the good news is that the official has finally brought the new generation model, which is undoubtedly a significant improvement over the current model in terms of product power.
However, the pattern of the medium-sized luxury SUV market has been very stable, Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC three German models firmly dominate the market, while other second-tier luxury brands represented by Volvo XC60 and Cadillac XT5 continue to attract some consumers through price reduction strategies, in addition, Tesla Model Y, Azera ES6, etc. In addition, new energy brands such as Tesla Model Y and Azera ES6 have also gradually gained a foothold. Therefore, whether the new generation of Lexus NX can regain its past glory and win the recognition of consumers is still to be tested in the market.
