Saying "Goodbye" in Korean
You've had a great time and it's time to part ways - but what do you say?! You remember how to say "Hello" don't you? It's 안녕하세요. You may also remember that we broke it down into parts with '안녕' meaning 'peace' and 'health'. When you say goodbye in polite Korean, there are two separate phrases depending on whether you are the one staying or leaving - the good news is that both phrases use '안녕'. If you are the one leaving and the other person (other people) are staying, then you can say: 안녕히 계세요 [ an-nyeong-hi bye-se-yo ] So then, if you are the one staying and everyone is leaving, then you should say: 안녕히 가세요 [ an-nyeong-hi ha-se-yo ] For now I would recommend just learning these phrases and the phrases in the next few cards as stock phrases, if you're really interested as to what they mean, drop me a comment below and I'll get back to you!
