If you're travelling across China, speaking in Mandarin will (nearly) always ensure you are understood - but if you're keen to make some more friends or ensure you don't get ripped off while shopping in the local market, it may be worth trying to pick up a few words in the local language!

@ryantadman If you get the chance, you should definitely go! They're fascinating to visit~ I still haven't come into contact with anyone who speaks Gan or Min...hopefully on my next visit to China maybe?

I never realised there was so much linguistic diversity in China, I mean, I knew dialects existed but not to this extent!
