A friendly stroll along the Han River can be made into an awesome date with a few simple additions. I normally start my walks around Yeouinaru station and go from there.... 1. Bring a picnic Pack some sandwiches or gimbap in lunch boxes before you head off. Make sure to grab a blanket, throw it down on the ground by the river bank and tuck in! The great thing about a picnic is that is can be as fancy or as simple as you want it to be. You can have sandwiches or you can bring starter, main and dessert... it's all up to you. *If it's an evening thing, chicken is always good! 2. A beer or two? If it's an evening stroll, why not pick up a few cans of beer (or makgeoli if you're not a beer fan) to accompany your picnic. Alcohol is great for easing the mood - I'm not saying get wasted but a can or two can really ease an otherwise potentially awkward situation! 3. Ice Cream Who doesn't love ice cream? I have yet to meet a person who doesn't love (or at least like) ice cream. There are many convenience stores along the side of the river so grab an ice cream each...or you could always share? 4. Duck Boating It's a classic scene in many Korean dramas...and normally ends with both parties in the water but it doesn't always have to be that way. Obviously this is more of a daytime thing but hop in a paddle boat and take your date for a spin around the river - just be careful not to crash into other ducks or you may well end up in the water. I've been told it's also a really good lesson in teamwork - my friend went with her boyfriend and apparently they were utterly useless; they just went in circles but since they didn't fall in they still called it a success? 5. Biking If you don't fancy duck-boating, try biking. Rent a bike and hit the pathway. It's relaxing, fun and a great thing to do to get rid of any awkwardness (you can't really talk that much while cycling along!). The only disadvantage of biking, kindly pointed out by my guy friends, is that there's no chance of's your call! Costs Involved: Picnic: as much as you want it to be. Ice Cream: 1,000won and above. Bike Rental: ~3,000won per hour. Duck Boats: 15,000won per 45 minutes (includes life-jacket). Location: Start from Yeouinaru Station (여의나루역) and go from there. Directions: Travel by underground to Yeouinaru Station (Line 5, Line 9) and take Exit 3. The Han river is right outside the tube station so it's up to you where you go~
