This is a really sweet story: a girl named Amelia Earhart (yes, after that Amelia) decided to take after her namesake and attempt to fly around the world! On July 2, 1937, Amelia Earhart (the original) left on her global journey, and never completed it. She had a companion but the two disappeared. Yesterday, another Amelia Earhart left on her journey! She's 31 years old, and left from California, flew to Denvery, Miama, Trinidad and Tobago and then to Brazil. She's currently in Tanzania, and will continue through Seychelles, Maldives, Singapore, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati (near where the first Amelia went missing!), Hawaii, and then back to her starting point in Oakland. When all is said and done, Amelia will have covered some 24,300 nautical miles (45,000 km) in her Pilatus PC-12 NG airplane. She has a copilot with her as well. Impressive! I don't think I'd be willing to test fate, but I hope that she is able to complete her journey!
