[ yi jiā ] IKEA was quite clever when creating their Chinese brand name. Not only does 'yi jiā' sound about as close as you could probably get to IKEA in pinyin but it also carries meaning rather than just being a purely phonetics based translation. 宜家 which means 'comfortable home' has enjoyed huge success in China. Last year, IKEA announced that China was close to becoming its second-biggest market with long run predictions envisioning it becoming the company's biggest market in the not-too-distant future.
