Moving a casual stroll from the friend zone into couple dating territory can be as simple as taking someone's hand and smiling...except we all know it's actually not that 'simple' - it's terrifying. That said, with a bit of preparation, it's easy to set the right (=romantic) tone that will help you out in your romancing endeavours. As human beings, we walk around a lot whether it's walking to and from work or the shops but generally, when we walk it's with a purpose. It has a destination. On a date, the importance should be placed on the walking. It's not about the destination, it's about the journey you take together to get to the destination - even if that destination is just a cafe 20 minutes away - it's an opportunity to get to know each other better. Cheonggyecheon Stream is a great place to walk. Passing through the old city centre, it's a perfect end to a date at one of the palaces or in Insadong. Popular with city residents and tourists alike, a walk along this three and a half mile stream is almost as good as a spa for clearing one's mind or getting to better know your date. Personally, I'd recommend taking a walk down here in the evenings after dinner or a date at one of the palaces. In the daytime it's quite packed with tourists - especially in the summer - but in the evening it quietens down quite a bit. Unsurprisingly, it's also a big hit with Korean couples - one of my friends joked about seeing more couples walking along the stream than in Central Park in New York (!) - so maybe your date will take the hint?!. Most importantly, the darkness just gives it a much more romantic feel ^^. Happy walking! Costs Involved : None Location: The starting point of the stream is at the Cheonggye Plaza in Sejong-ro. Cheonggyecheonro, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea Directions: Travel by underground to City Hall Station (Lines 1 & 2) and take Exit 4 then walk 250m north to Cheonggye Plaza Or travel by underground to Gwanghwamun Station (Line 5) and take Exit 5 then walk 100m south to Cheonggye Plaza Bear in mind the Line 1 runs along much of the stream’s north bank from City Hall Station to Sinseol-dong Station so if you get tired, it's easy to just pop on the underground. This sort of reminds me of the canals around Venice Beach but much much nicer. This would be cool to visit one day.
