Largemouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides)
I almost forgot this guy because I assume that everyone knows the bass! Common name: Largemouth, Bass, largemouth bass. Native. ID: 2 dorsal. Big notch between spine and soft rays. Body very long. Jaw goes past end of eye. Dark streak on side. Life cycle: Spawn in late spring/early summer. Make nest in rock bottoms, female lays eggs inside. Hatch in 3 to 4 days. Come out about 8 days later, fry stick together, and then moves on once about 1 inch long. Feeds on: Minnows, carp, any other fish species including their own. Predators: Yellow perch, walleyes, muskies, and pike while young. Have problems with parasites like tapework and grub.
