When you ride a bicycle as a kid you are taught to push down on the pedals to make the bike move. It makes sense, because your feet are not attached to the pedals and that is where you can output the most force, with a push down. Well, things are different for clipless pedals. A full, smooth rotation is what is expected to come from being clipped in. Not just pushing down, but pulling back, up and pushing forward all matter. Making a smooth circle with power outputted in ever direction is what makes a good pedaling motion.
