DIY One-Page Website: Part 4/4 - Hosting and Making Your Site Live
If you have been following this series, then you should have your basic one-page layout done. However, if you just want to learn how to make a website live, this tutorial can help you as well.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Hosting Account (Bluehost)
- FTP program (Filezilla)
- Your website files
STEP 1: Get a Hosting Account
Before we begin anything, there needs to be a server where you can host your files. I am personally using BlueHost as my hosting server. You can check prices at http://www.bluehost.com/. One thing I like about BlueHost is that it includes a free domain when you first create an account with them.
STEP 2: Download FileZilla
In order to make your website live, you need to transfer your files from your computer to your server. You can do this directly through Bluehost, but I recommend FileZilla for ease of access.
STEP 3: Log-in to your hosting account and get your host & username info. Then, open FileZilla. You will notice on the top right that there is a space for you to do a "Quickconnect". Log-in by putting in your information. Take note that this information might be different if you are not using BlueHost for these steps.
Host: Your domain name
Username: Found on hosting account
Password: Should be the same as account password
STEP 4: Go into your public_html folder on the bottom right. This is where you are transferring your files.
STEP 5: Select all of the files you want to transfer, right click, and click upload. Files should be uploaded. See my example at http://lupitadavila.com/vingle/demo/
