Fitness for Diabetes: Water Aerobics
Aerobics can be defined as any physical exercise that increases the heart rate and the body's intake of oxygen. Water aerobics allows a person to get the same benefits as regular aerobic workouts, but it has many advantages. Because it is done in water, you may sweat, but you'll stay cool because in the water. Another benefit is that anyone can participate, regardless of age. The water causes your body to be buoyant, causing less stress on joints and muscles. Water aerobics is an extremely low impact exercise where water supports your weight. It also provides a great deal of resistance for your muscles to work against. This resistance creates an excellent environment for those of us with injuries or sensitive joints. Most importantly, for those of you who are overweight or who have not exercised for a while, this is a great way to get back and stay in an exercise program! Try these moves next time you're in the pool: K-Tread (http://www.vingle.net/posts/412673) Wave Maker (http://www.vingle.net/posts/412676)

I've heard a lot of my friends (particularly in the surfing crowd) that bash water aerobics...until they try it. I jog in the pool all the time for resistance training!
