Screening recommendations for women at average risk
According to the American Cancer Society, women should get:
1. Clinical breast exam every 1-3 years starting from age 20-39
2. Clinical breast exam and mammogram yearly starting from age 40*.
*The U.S. Preventive Services Task force recommends that each woman should talk to her doctor at age 40 to make an informed decision on whether to get yearly mammograms at age 40, since breast cancer before 50 is very rare.
