Maria Popova's Brainpickings blog is one of my must reads every day. When she was asked to create a list of books for "long-term thinking" to the Long Now Foundation's Manual for Civilization, she faced the "predicament of diversity" when trying to include more books by women. Does just women authors cover it? Do you need to represent black women? Lesbians? Non-English speaking? I think she did made a great attempt here, and while I've read a few of these, it would be a nice summer project to read them all!

I love Brainpickings (so good to see another reader of theirs @spudsomma) but somehow missed this one. I think I've only read 7 of these (gasp!) so I also might start a summer journey to read at least 4 or 5 more by summer's end.
