Shade systems for your kayak can be pretty expensive, but this is a pretty good DIY solution. It can handle winds up to about 10-15mph gust winds, and as long as you keep the friction at the right amount, it can probably withstand more and even act a bit like a sail.
This is soo important if you're planning on being on the water for a while. You're getting sun from the sky AND from reflecting off the water. Yikes.
