Though the Palestinians don't have an army, rockets are regularly fired from Gaza into Israel. Israelis living in border towns are used to having to take shelter and adapting their lives to deal with the rockets. In the years since Israel withdrew its troops in 2005, Gaza has seen several Israeli offensives. Israel says these were aimed at putting a stop to rocket fire. In 2008, Israel sent soldiers into Gaza. An estimated 1,300 people, many of them civilians, were killed in Gaza before a ceasefire was declared; 13 Israeli soldiers also died. In 2012, at least 167 Palestinians and six Israelis were killed during an Israeli operation. After eight days a ceasefire was declared with both sides promising to stop attacks. Most recently in July 2014, Palestinian authorities said over 200 people were killed by Israeli air strikes and many more injured. Israel says more than 1,100 rockets were fired from Gaza, seriously injuring at least four Israelis, with one Israeli man killed.

hopefully with the recent ceasefire the violence will decrease ~
@saharhyunjoong It is inhumane for Israel to fire on schools and hospitals as it has done in recent days - but equally, in many cases, the actions of Hamas have been equally inhumane. They have continued to use the Palestinian people as a shield while they proceed with their campaign against Israel. But equally @orenshani7 the Israeli forces are not innocent in this conflict but neither would it be fair to say they are unprovoked. I disagree that the it is the Palestinians who must put an end to the violence - especially as you've mentioned yourself, Israel is far better equipped than Hamas. Both sides must make concerted efforts to promote a peaceful - only when both sides see each other willing to try will there be any headway. In this post, I think @Ahnjp05 was simply commenting on the dramatic increase of violence on the strip in recent times which is not opinion but fact
@saharhyunjoong I agree with you - it's totally inhumane
@orenshani7 i just wanna its really inhumane to throw bombs at kids naming them as terrorists i understand the defense part but plzz they r innocent civilians ………………
Do you know how many children died in Syria at the same time? Do you know how many in the conflict in east Africa? Do you know how many in Iraq?
