One of the things that really bugs me is leftover drinks, or wine for that matter, after a party. Below is a recipe for granita that can be made by using after party drinks. You can also add a little ice cream on top of the granita to make it more appealing!
Recipe below, and this makes about 2-3 cups.
1 cup red/white wine or rosé or even beer but the beer should be a pilsner
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons water
3 tablespoons sugar
Sweetened whipped cream for topping or ice cream for a better taste
In a medium bowl, mix the wine, water, and sugar together, keep stirring until the sugar completely dissolves.
Pour the mixture into a shallow baking dish and put it into the freezer until partially frozen.
After the mixture is frozen, break it into little shards/crystals by using a fork. Return the pan to the freezer to freeze completely.
Scrape and toss the granita one more time. Keep frozen until serving. Serve in stemmed glasses, dolloped with ice cream!
Props to Alice Medrich for the recipe!
