Walnut Horn Cookies

My mom used to make these every Christmas. This isn't her recipe, but it's the closest I could find. Ingredients: 1 cup plus 1 teaspoon butter, softened, divided 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened 3 cups all-purpose flour 4 cups ground walnuts 1-1/4 cups sugar, divided 1/2 cup 2% milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/8 teaspoon salt Directions: 1) In a large bowl, beat 1 cup butter and the cream cheese until light and fluffy. Gradually add flour, beating until mixture forms a ball. 2) Divide dough into four portions; roll each into a 12-in. circle. 3) Melt the remaining butter. 4) In a large bowl, combine the walnuts, 3/4 cup sugar, milk, vanilla, salt and melted butter. Spread over circles. Cut each into 12 wedges. Roll up wedges, starting from the wide ends. 5) Place point side down on greased baking sheets. Curve ends to form crescents. Bake at 325° for 35-40 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks. 6) Place remaining sugar in a small shallow bowl. Roll warm cookies in sugar. Yield: 4 dozen. Faking It On Valentine's Day
Here's a really cool idea for Valentine's Day: FAKE IT! For real! Guys can be either really lazy about V-Day or over-think it and determine to learn new skills, such as cooking, on one of the biggest hyped calendar dates in the year, February 14th. That's probably not the best approach to making the date night more than being memorable for being bad. Instead of trying to bake a cake or cookies, or dare yourself into making fudge, you could avoid a messy crisis and make your own Chocolate Dipped Strawberries. TRUST ME, IT'S EASY! You Will Need: Strawberries (washed and thoroughly dried) Candy Melts (pink and white) Chocolate chips (semi-sweet is best) Edible gold Edible glitter Edible embellishments (there's time to order from Amazon) Directions Melt the Candy Melts and chocolate (according to the package) in their own container/bowl. Dip strawberries into desired bowl and set aside. Drizzle a different color "melt" onto the dipped strawberries. Also, redip the strawberries in another "melt" at the tip and immediately dredge in edible glitter. Set these in a tray in the fridge and take out to de-chill a few moments before eating. These are fruity, gently sweetened with the chocolate and melts, and will look AMAZING with the edible embellishments! The Christmas Latte to Rule Them All
I've talked about this cafe before, and I'll talk about it again. All That Sweets is hands down my favorite dessert cafe on Earth. Watch my video review here or read below^^ Today I went alone so I passed on a slice of the strawberry shortcake but look how adorable is it! Their cakes are always light and creamy, though the flavors change daily! I've seen chocolate, vanilla, and even kiwi cakes. Instead I opted for one of their amazing macarons. Because I came late in the day, my only option was the chocolate raspberry "merry xmas" heart macaron, but I probably would have chosen that anyway. These flavors also vary with the season but every single one I've ever tried has been absolutely delicious. But of course, the star of the show is my Christmas Tree Latte <3 Their lattes are amazingly intricate, and they have a dozen of them on the menu at all times. The homemade (delicious) whipped cream is covered in melted chocolate, sprinkles, and meringue cookies. I seriously thought I hated meringue until I tried these babies. Now I can't get enough! They sell these for the month of December, and then usually move on to make snowflake or other winter themed lattes. All year 'round they offer rose, raincloud, and even coral styled lattes! This year they also introduced a gingerbread man latte that I was tempted to get, but I had to stick to my traditional tree :) You can also find me here: Tumblr Instagram Twitter Facebook SnapChat: cari.cakez
DIY peppermint spoons
This is a perfect item to use in your hot holiday drinks — use the peppermint spoon to stir the drink and then the peppermint will melt into your drink. How amazing is that? This DIY tutorial comes from the creative people at Princess Pinky Girl. Materials For this project, you will need: -- Hard peppermint candies -- Oven -- Spoon molds (you can buy these at a craft or baking store or online here) -- Plastic bag -- Food/candy crusher (you can also use a hammer) -- Chocolate chips and sprinkles (optional)You can find most of these items at a craft or grocery store. Form the spoons Put a lot of hard peppermint candies in a plastic bag. Then, use the food crusher or hammer to crush the candies into smaller pieces. Put the smaller pieces into the mold, as shown in the picture above. Make sure there are a lot of peppermint candies in the handle as this section will break easily if there is enough peppermint candy there. Melt the peppermint Melt the peppermint candy in the oven at 300 degrees for about 10 minutes. Keep an eye on the candy to make sure that it melts all the way, but doesn't bubble. If any of the spoon looks thin, you can add some more peppermint candy pieces and stick it back in the oven. Let the spoons cool completely before removing from the molds. If you need more help making the peppermint spoons, check out this video with simple step-by-step instructions. If you want to add some extra flair to your peppermint spoons, you can add melted chocolate and sprinkles to your spoons. Use the peppermint spoon in your favorite holiday drink and enjoy! Instructions adapted from Tip Hero! How to Make Apple Roses These delicious baked apple roses are a perfect way to impress your Valentine. Or woo them any day of the year! 1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. 2. Take halved, cored, unpeeled apples and carefully slice very thin (see how in the video above). Put slices in a microwave safe bowl and cover with water. Add the juice of half a lemon. Microwave for 3 minutes to soften the slices and make them more pliable for rolling up. 3. In another bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of fruit preserves and 3 tablespoons of water. 4. Roll out puff pastry and slice into rectangular strips about 2 inches (or a little less) wide. (Again, the video has better details on this part.) 5. For each strip, spoon a little of the fruit preserve mixture onto the dough and spread. Place apple slices overlapping along the length of the dough. Sprinkle with a little cinnamon and fold pastry dough up over apples. Finally, starting from one end, roll the entire thing up and place dough side down in a greased muffin tin. 6. Bake for 35-45 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool 5 minutes before removing from tin. Awesome! You've just learned how to make apple roses! Who's going to use these to make it the best (tastiest) Valentines Day ever? :D
