J.K Rowling Sent a 15-Year-Old Shooting Survivor a Letter From Dumbledore
I saw this on Elle Online this afternoon...and it broke my heart. In July, 15 year old Cassidy Stay lost her entire family; both her parents and her four younger siblings in a horrific shooting at their home. At the memorial service, only three days, Cassidy stood in front of crowds to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and the help of rescue workers. Quoting Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Cassidy finished her speech saying "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of places, if only one remembers to turn on the light". Her speech made headlines and Rowling reportedly sent Cassidy a letter written by Dumbledore himself (in his signature purple ink), a Hogwarts acceptance letter, a wand and a signed copy of the book. A small gesture of kindness in what is otherwise a tragic story - it's nice to know that even in the darkest depths, there is light.
my heart goes out to that poor girl
