Between Shades of Gray
There's very little fiction written for middle school students about Stalin's dictatorship. This book details a young Lithuanian girl's experience in the forced labor camps in Siberia. The narration alternates between her time there, and her much happier present. Fascinating story, to share with students interested in World War II and its aftermath. Appropriate for 6th grade and up.
