Qatar Airways' Frequent Flyer Program: How to Get the Most Out of It

Qatar Flights was founded in 1993, but it didn’t launch its own frequent flyer program until 2010. Originally called Guest Rewards, the Qatar Plane frequent flyer program has many features that makes it stand out from its competitors’ programs. To fully take advantage of the program, though, you need to know exactly how it works—and this guide will give you all the information you need to do just that!

How to sign up

Signing up for Qatar’s frequent flyer program is easy—just search for Qatar Airlines flights online, enter your information, and choose your frequent flyer number. If you’re already a member of another airline’s frequent flyer program, you can often link your account with Qatar Airways Reservations so that miles or points earned will apply to both programs. You can also sign up using one of Qatar’s credit cards. This gives you Gold Membership, which means you get double points on all flights. These points don't transfer into any other airlines' programs but can be redeemed through Qmiles—Qatar's version of frequent flyer miles—for Qatar Aiways flight tickets and upgrades only.

How to earn points faster

There are several ways you can earn points faster. Here are a few tips on how to do so: If you’re flying Qatar Airways tickets (or its partner airline, Qantas), do your best to book your flights through Qatar Airways online booking or Qantas. Booking these flights directly with the airline is an easy way to earn points faster, and you’ll also get a perk-filled experience out of it. If you fly Qatar flights, expect perks like complimentary drinks, fast check-in lines, extra baggage allowance and access to frequent-flyer lounges worldwide.

Earning points through flying

Earning points with Qatar Airlines or Qatar Airways is extremely easy, and you can start from day one! Sign up for a frequent flyer program when you first book your flight, either online or at any time during your flight. From there, you’ll be earning miles on all future flights with Qatar booking. You can also earn miles by using their credit card. The credit card comes with some great perks such as a 100,000 mile sign-up bonus (100,000 more miles if you spend $3,000 in 3 months), and 6 miles per dollar spent on airfare. If you spend $1k per month ($12k annually) with them on the card they give you another 1 point per dollar spent.

Rewards and recognition

Qatar Airways’ frequent flyer program is one of my favorite airline loyalty programs in part because it includes so many rewards and recognition options. For example, you can earn award miles for being an ambassador for Qatar Airways tickets. My personal experience with their program

I travel frequently with Qatar Airways flight, and they offer a great frequent flyer program. I've been able to fly almost anywhere I want, no matter how obscure or expensive that flight may be, without having to pay an arm and a leg for it. They offer significant discounts on flights, access to airport lounges in major cities around the world (so you can rest up before your next flight), and have partnered with some of my favorite airlines for award redemption. For example, I was able to take advantage of a partnership between them and Korean Air on one trip that allowed me free stopovers at multiple airports! That experience might not have been possible if not for their generous loyalty program.
