In Eat and Run, Scott Jurek opens up about his life and career—as an elite athlete and a vegan—and inspires runners at every level. From his Midwestern childhood hunting, fishing, and cooking for his meat-and-potatoes family, to his early beginnings in running (he hated it), to his slow transition to ultrarunning and veganism, to his world-spanning, record-breaking races, Scott’s story shows the power of an iron will and blows apart all the stereotypes of what athletes should eat to fuel optimal performance. Chock-full of incredible, on-the-brink stories of endurance and competition, fascinating science, and accessible practical advice—including his own favorite plant-based recipes—Eat and Run will motivate everyone to “go the distance,” whether that means getting out for that first run, expanding your food horizons, or simply exploring the limits of your own potential.
@RayvenCollins Right; I, too would probably be grouchy if I wasn't eating meat, but after cutting back on it for various health reasons, I've found I am fine with less than I am used to, so I feel that going totally without meat isn't as unthinkable as I once believed. I have heard similar advice from other doctors, too, as the vegan diet can be very good for various health problems.
yes you are right everyone has their own preferences. i dont think i could be satisfied without meat personally. i shouldnt have made the superficial comment. thats not true just an observation. my doctor preached to me about going vegan. shes the first doctor who recommended that. id like to challenge myself sometime and see how i feel but i think ill only get irritated. lol
@RayvenCollins Interesting point, Rayven, but I don't think that every vegan out there looks thin with no muscles! Sure, humans have developed to eat meat and in many societies it's unthinkable, but the body can survive--thrive, really!--on a diet without meat as well. I think there are a lot of points for and against veganism, but it's really up to the individual.
i will never understand vegan lifestyles. its so unnatural to not eat meat. meat is unhealthy? no eating no meat is unhealthy.. vegan people always look stick thin with no muscles and pale.... yeh... thats the look i want
