This series contains 75 black-and-white photographs, taken between 1999 and 2009, feature children, parents and Communist soldiers, all with eyes closed or facing away from the camera. The pictures, which have numbers rather than names, hint at family and historical narratives, and are streaked with melancholy loneliness – not only are the subjects apart from each other, but they're apart from the viewer, as if lost in a dream of the past. Liaoning-born Wang, 39, graduated in photography from Shenyang's Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 1995.
