Take your leftover cutting from a basil plant, and stick them in small glasses of water. After one week, you should see the beginnings of roots forming on the largest of the cuttings. Wait another week and see the progression of the roots! Once the roots look similar to this photo, you can transfer the plant into soil :)

Wonderful tip! One of my favorite things to do is regrow what I do buy from the store--that's how I start all my garlic beds initially!
