Time Outdoors = Higher Creativity?

Does more time spent outdoors mean a higher level of creativity? It seems like the answer might be "yes." Check out these 3 reasons: 1. Time Outdoors Can Help Restore Brain Circuits Our minds are extremely influenced by the type of environment we place ourselves in. If you disconnect from the high-speed technology we are so used to, our brain circuits can readjust to focus more on creative aspects rather than keeping up with that environment. Even just a few hours spent fishing from a boat or shore can help your mind rest, relax and recharge. One study followed 56 participants on a four-day hike where the use of laptops, cell phones, and other technology was strictly prohibited. Half the group completed a creativity test before their hike, and the other half took the test towards the end. As it turns out, those who took the test after four days of trekking scored 50% higher than those in the first group. It's all about giving your brain a break from the daily grind of technology, not to mention stress. Earlier research, for instance, compared creativity levels among groups of people who strolled—without their cell phones—through either arboretums or cities. Those strolling in the arboretum enjoyed greater increases in creativity. 2. Time Outdoors Can Improve Attention and Focus More time outdoors doing things like fishing, camping, etc. can help attention span and focus as well. There is research that shows that children who learn new outdoor skills do much better in academics, personal confidence, motivation, creativity, and more. One 2005 study by the California Department of Education found that students in outdoor science programs improved their science testing scores by 27 percent. Children in outdoor education settings show improvement in self-esteem, problem solving and motivation to learn. Studies at the University of Illinois show that time in natural settings significantly reduces symptoms of attention-deficit (hyperactivity) disorder in children as young as age five. So why not learn one more outdoor activity? 3. Time Spent Outdoors Can Lessen Mental Strain When your stress levels lower while doing activities like fishing, boating and camping, you don't have to focus as much on your everyday problems. During this time, you will have more mental resources to lend towards productive thoughts that help to build on your creativity and imagination. The constant distractions and stimulations of modern life are a threat. They sap our resources to do the fun thinking and cognition humans are capable of — things like creativity, or being kind and generous, along with our ability to feel good and be in a positive mood. Less stress leaves more room for your brain to be creative! So, let's get outside!

@BryanCrappell Yeah I do, sometimes I don't even know what I'm watching anymore to be honest. You're so right, nature teaches us more than just howto follow along with a TV program....smart. I watch so much less these days but I'm gonna have to just give it up!
tbh guys, I tossed my TV when I realized that everything on was talking down to me. falling water & mcgraffy, do you ever feel insulted by TV? I just got fed up with the mind numbing incoherent psychobabble. being out in nature requires thought, observation, patience, any lack in anyone of these could be fatal.
I feel you but as good as a person I am I feel like I am a iota to the total amount of bad mo fos out there !
@BryanCrappell Hope I"m brave enough to toss mine someday, too!
@ByranCrappell Indeed! I still have my TV but the more time i am stuck indoors the more i feel my spirits plummet. outdoors does wonders for us!

Gulf Coast Lionfish Invasion
This video might seem like a huge haul, but lion fish are an invasive population that are harming the waters of the Gulf. In response to the Lionfish population growth which has exploded since 2010, the Gulf Coast Lionfish Coalition has formed in hopes of lowering the population of these invasive fish. Why is it so hard to lower this population number? Because they are eating other fish that are huge sources of food for the area, and people aren't really accustomed to eating lionfish, so the population has nothing keeping it in check. Learn some facts about why lionfish are being hunted like in the video above, and, if you're in the area, do your part to get the lionfish off the reefs! --------------------------------------------------------- Lionfish Facts! - Lionfish are not native to the Gulf of Mexico. They originate from the Indo-Pacific, and it is believed that they spread into the Gulf after they were released by aquarium owners in South Florida. - The Lionfish (Pterois sp.) is a non-native, invasive species originally from the Pacific. - Lionfish possess 13 dorsal, 2 pelvic, and 3 anal spines that are venomous and can cause a very painful stick if not handled carefully. - Lionfish have no natural predators in the gulf. - Lionfish are very difficult to catch using traditional hook & line fishing methods. - Lionfish stomachs can expand over 30 times in volume after consuming a large meal. - Lionfish are capable of releasing 30,000 eggs per week.

Welcome to the Funny Community game, Love It Or Hate It! This game is really similar to Monday's 'No Good or So Good' food game - except this one deals a lot more with non-food things. Every week, I highlight a different thing that a lot of people either really love or really hate and see how our community feels overall! This week, I want to know: How do you feel about fishing? For some of us, fishing is a whole lot of fun outdoors! While others think the whole fishing thing is all kinds of savage. How about you? 3 Fun Outdoor Hairstyle Ideas
It's never too early to prepare for Fall. My friends and I just started thinking about outdoor activities during Fall and here I am looking through hairstyles for hiking. I'm that excited. Also, I want to share my curated list to everyone because I thought some of you might be interested in changing up your hairstyles for your fall classes or activities such as biking, rock climbing or yoga. Medium to Long Hair: Easy Pulled Back Ponytail If you're hitting the hills or biking this one is perfect. Your hair will look good for hiking photos and it's not to shabby for a post-hike meal at a diner. This is also a no-fuss helmet hairstyle. Buns are too snug. Styling Instruction: 1. Pull the crown of the hair into a ponytail. 2. Then flip hair through the ponytail. 3. Repeat until the hair at the nape is also pulled back. Tip: The ponytail should be stack on top of the previous tail. Curly Hair: Braidout Ponytail I know how annoying it is to have hair brushing on your face. Even though my hair is not voluminous I get pretty irritated by the piecey strands bugging my forehead. This is why i can't do bangs because I'll end up clipping them up most of the time. If you have the same problem, try this cute hairstyle by AlleySinai. She braids the front and bring it back into a half ponytail. You can also pull it back into a ponytail if you want to keep the hair off your shoulder. Short Hair: Fringe Braid Ponytail Same concept with the braidout ponytail except you're only braiding one part of the bang. Then tie the rest of the hair back in a ponytail. This one doesn't have to be perfect There you have it.
9 Signs You Have Senioritis
If you are about to graduate this year, then we’d like to congratulate you. You have successfully managed to cope with the tough and daunting four years of your life, or maybe more for a few students. But there is still a semester to go and you have to give your best shot to get a degree with good grades. For this, you need to make sure that you do not slack off on your school homework and deliver them on time. As senioritis might not be an actual disease but it sneaks up to you when you have least expected it. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to stop it. In fact, you might be suffering from it today and you don’t know about it. So, look out for the symptoms below and if you can relate with any of them, it might already be too late. 1. Procrastination, Procrastination and Procrastination If you are finishing up your assignments at the eleventh hour, you’re officially a part of the worst club of school – seniorities. And it is not something you should be proud of. Researching and composing content before a night not only increases your chances of failure but can also launch stress and anxiety. Although you can get the best UK law essay help for the law coursework or any other type of homework, you need to get back on track. 2. Failure to Keep Electronic Devices Aside You may feel that your hands are numb and your mind is fighting against your thoughts when you decide to turn off the TV or lay your phone aside. This is where senioritis is at its peak, making it impossible for you to follow up on your decisions. Here, you can do nothing but stay in that position for endless hours. 3. Inability to Remember Due Dates How are you supposed to remember the deadlines when you can barely remember to brush your hair before leaving the house? This happens when you are infected with senioritis and are unable to retain important information for a longer period. It cannot only mess up your project due dates but you might forget to take the lunch to the school or leave your keys behind while you are trying to unlock the car. 4. Trouble in Waking Up Early Studies suggest that seniorities can raise your energy levels at night, making you sleepless or irritated when you are trying to rest. As a result, you may feel dizzy in the morning and feel low in energy upon waking up. This disease has also reportedly increased intake of caffeine in last year students by almost 50 per cent. 5. Excessive Desire to Bunk Classes Have you ever tried to make excuses about false sickness or accidents so that you can skip classes and stay at home? Sadly, this is one of the ways of seniorities in students. You will find yourself reaching the maximum number of absences allowed or even exceeding it sometimes. By doing so, you not only set up a poor impression on your teacher but ruin your performance as well. 6. Lack of Motivation Whether you are having a hard time making yourself attend a school or preparing for the next big exam, seniorities are to blame. Lack of motivation and commitment is common among individuals who are infected with seniorities. However, what you can do is to surround yourself with high-esteemed and energetic fellows so that you stay motivated until graduation. 7. No Interest in Reading Lengthy Documents When you were enrolled in the program, you used to read the research papers and lengthy articles within a few minutes. So, what has happened now that you run from such documents? Well, it is definitely seniorities that is keeping you from concentrating. You may also have a shorter attention span and experience blurry vision when you try to focus on a document for too long. 8. Sense of Superiority Seniorities can make you feel like you are above and superior to everyone in the campus. When you start acting so, you automatically become egoistic and develop an attitude that has no basis. Cutting freshmen in the lunch lines and avoiding anyone less than your ‘class’ becomes a routine. Not only this but reaching the classroom 10 minutes late is nothing unusual for you. 9. Loss of Interest in Physical Appearance Repetition of clothes within a week is the most common symptom of an individual going through seniorities. Moreover, boys feel more comfortable wearing sweatpants to school and girls care less about wearing makeup each day. Therefore, if you have been least interested in maintaining and grooming yourself lately, then you might also be infected. What’s positive is that seniorities are not life-threatening and will usually go away with time. Fast forward to the graduation day, you would be all dressed up and excited for the ceremony. Until then, you have to push yourself to attend classes, complete assignments on time, look after your appearance and know that college is about to finish. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Read More Article About 6 Strategies to Get The Best Work From Your Students
