How To Survive Your Very First KCON, Advice From A KCON Veteran
For K-Pop fans here in the United States, KCON is hands down the biggest event of the year. It's not only an opportunity to meet up with fellow fangirls (and fanboys!) and make new friends, but it's pretty much a huge Hallyu party, complete with K-Food vendors, celebrity panelists, and - of course - live performances from some of the hottest idols of the year! With KCON finally branching out and coming to BOTH coasts this year, that means a whole lot of you are probably heading out to KCON for the very first time! As a self-described 'veteran KCON-er' myself, I've decided to throw together a fun survival guide for first-timers complete with some exclusive photos of KCON from past years! Dress Comfortably! When you're at the convention, you're going to be doing a whole lot of walking around. Make sure that you're not only staying hydrated (keep some cash handy for water), but you're wearing comfortable shoes and have something to hold all of that K-Pop swag you're going to end up collecting throughout the day. (There's a LOT of cool giveaways, which means a LOT of stuff to be lugging around!) Get Ready To Dance All Day! KCON is full of plenty of opportunities to get your K-Pop dance on. Not only can you join in on a flash mob, but there are also special events throughout the convention where fans can teach and learn the choreography to all their favorite K-Pop songs! Be Prepared For Some Epic Cosplay! Cosplay isn't just for anime conventions anymore! KCON is PACKED with people dressed up as their favorite idols and music video concepts. In past years, I've seen fans arrive dressed as anyone from 'Bar Bar Bar'-era Crayon Pop to 'Doom Dada' T.O.P himself! Ask The Panelists Questions Some Crazy Questions! The celebrity panels are one of my favorite parts of KCON, and it's because you get the chance to play interviewer and ask people whatever they want! In fact, here are some things I found out just by getting to ask different KCON panelists weird questions: John Major, the songwriter behind EXO's 'Growl', has a pretty surprising favorite K-Pop song: 'Turn It Up' by T.O.P of BIGBANG. Lydia Paek might help choreograph and compose some of YG Entertainment's hottest singles, but she's also a licensed pharmacist. When Josh (AKA YouTube celebrity The Korean Englishman) sings karaoke with his friends, his go-to track is 'Supermagic' by Supreme Team. When you get to KCON, review the program, pick out panelists you'd be interested in meeting, and think about what weird questions you'd like them to answer. It's a lot of fun! Impress Your KCON Bias With Your Korean Skills! Fan meetings are probably the most exciting part for many of the fans attending KCON. Depending on what type of ticket you buy, you can get a chance to meet your favorite idols - you might even score yourself a hi-touch or autograph! If you're selected to attend a fan meeting, make sure to get there early, and in the meantime, practice what you're going to say when you finally get to meet them! (Even if you're not an expert at Korean, they'll really be touched that you tried your best.) Want to learn some Korean phrases? Check out @kpopandkimchi's How To Talk To Your Oppa collection. Attend The 'Danny From LA' Live Taping! Danny Im from MNET's 'Danny From LA' shoots a special KCON episode every year on the main outdoor stage, which means that even if you don't gain entrance to your favorite group's fan meeting, you can be in the audience for their on-stage interview! 'Danny From LA' loves bringing fans on stage to meet their favorite idols or participate in some sort of game, so who knows? Maybe you'll even get to be on TV! Show Up Early To The Pre-Show Red Carpet! A couple hours before the concert starts, select fans will be able to attend the pre-show red carpet event, where all of the artists on the evening's line-up will come out to be interviewed by the media, greet the fans, and pose for the cameras - including yours! If you're selected, make sure to get there as early as possible so you get a good view. (Shout-outs to the guy in the red hat here that kept blocking mine!) Go Crazy At The Concert! Once you get to the part we've ALL been waiting for, make sure to scream as loud and as often as you possibly can. All KCON attendees are usually given some sort of lightstick, so make sure to shake it back and forth to support all of your favorites. And DANCE! Dance by yourself, dance with your friends, heck - dance with some strangers! Being at a K-Pop show means being surrounded by people that are just as obsessed as you are. (Believe me, you won't run out of things to talk about.) And, that's it! That's all of the advice I'd give to all of you Vinglers attending KCON this year. I hope you have an amazing time and enjoyed this card!
Confessing Your Love with Classic 00's Pop
With all these flash mob engagement videos going around, it has got me wondering why more people aren't using this style when it comes to asking a girl to the movies or finding a prom date?! This is a fool-proof way to confess your love! Do it now!! 1. BBMak - Back Here There will never be anything more romantic than BBMak's Back Here. Nothing. You will melt hearts from the very first line. 2. 98 Degrees - I Do Super cheesy and super smooth, you can't go wrong with Nick Lachey & co's "I Do (Cherish You). Make sure you have the hoop earrings in both ears. It's all part of the package. 3. N'Sync - I Promise You The best part of this is even if you panic and stop singing, your audience will pick up the slack for you. No one can resist singing along with this chorus. 4. Savage Garden - Truly Madly Deeply How can you think of a 90s pop song and not think of Savage Garden!? Guaranteed your crush will want to stand with you on a mountain. (Shout out to "I Knew I Loved You" - I could only put one of you on the list!) 5. Backstreet Boys - I Want it That Way If the object of your love is not jumping into your arms before you hit this chorus you need to find another crush. This one clearly isn't worth it. This is arguably one of the best love song in history (coming from a serious Backstreet Boys fan...) so people who don't appreciate it don't deserve to be loved. 6. Enrique Iglesias - Hero Best way to get anyone to fall in love with you: look like Enrique Iglesias. If you can't: sing like him. 7. Avril Lavigne - Sk8ter Boi I don't care how you do it, but taking a few minutes to change the lyrics to Sk8ter Boi will win anyone's heart. Or at least mine. Call me. 8. A-Teens - Can't Help Falling in Love This doesn't need an explanation. Bonus points if you can get the choreography down too. 9. S Club 7 - You'e My Number One I am smiling like an idiot right now just listening to this song. It's catchy, sweet, and fun. S Club 7 can seriously do no wrong. They won't let you down.

Kpop Edition Guy Groups: Blast From the Past
Que tal peeps! This is your favorite chica Jessamine aka @amobigbang bringing you the KpopINT scope. You will see us posting cards relating to the past. As a Kpop fan or a fan of anything you must show respect to those who paved the way. Here at KpopINT we will look back on Kpop artists from the past and some things that may have been trending in South Korea back in the day. Imma get it cracking by admiring a few guy groups that opened up doors for the groups and Kpop artists that we love today. KpopINT Chairs: @bbyitskatie @MichelleIbarra @Sailynn KpopINT Fam: @amobigbang @daniimals @elaynethtrumpet @Gaarita100 @JohnEvans @Insfired @KpopBeat @krystalrikpop @LenaBlackRose @LexiMintkgtopty @ParkHwaYoung @parktaemi @reyestiny93 @Stefany17 @tayunnie None of these images or videos belong to KpopINT Writer Jessamine aka Social Media Event Organizer/Planner aka @amobigbang 1992: Seo Taiji and Boys (μ„œνƒœμ§€μ™€ 아이듀) This was a South Korean boy band that was active from 1992 to 1996. This was a 3 member group. Back in the early 90's 3 memeber groups were popular. The members of this group were Seo Taiji, Yang Hyun-suk and Lee Juno. They were know for working with an array of different genres. This group was way before their time. Many songs they created made many people upset (parents) due to having heavy influences from gangsta rap and rock music which was very popular during this time in America. Some songs were called unfit due to the lyrics and screaming in the background. Keep in mind this was during the time politicians were pushing for parental advisory labels and blaming music for the wild behaviors of the youth. Source "Come Back Home" by Seo Taiji and Boys This song was a huge hit in 1995. This song has a huge influence from American gangsta rap which was hot back in the USA during this time. 1993: Deux ( λ“€μŠ€) This was a two member group (1993-1995). They were a well known Korean hip hop group back in the day. These guys hard work was helpful in building what we know as Kpop today. Kpop is not just pop music per se, but it has influences from other genres. The members are Lee Hyun Do and Kim Sung Jae. These two had major influences in the dance and fashion world as well. Source "Turn Around and Look at Me" was a hot song introduced in 1993. You can look at tell how their style as influenced today's Kpop artists. 1996- 2001H.O.T. (μ—μ΄μΉ˜μ˜€ν‹°) They were also known as High-five of teenagers. This was a group of 5 guys. This group was under SM. They were very popular and were the first group in Kpop to produce an album that was brought in a million dollars. Source "We are the Future" by H.O.T. This was another number 1 hit for this group. This song was released in 1998. Wow look at the difference in fashion and technology! 1999- present Fly to the Sky (ν”ŒλΌμ΄ 투 더 슀카이) This is a two member group under the SM umbrella. Unlike the other groups mentioned in this card this group is still active according to sources. Brian Joo and Hwanhee are the members of this group. Brian is American and Hwanhee is from Korean. That itself represents the merge of two different cultures. One big thing about older groups that still are active today is that they all learn to evolve and remake themsleves. This is exactly what this group has done. They were more into techno and very pop like music in the past. However, later in their music journey they began producing more R&B music. Source "Sea of Love" was released in 2002. I couldn't find any older m/v of them! I'm so sorry!
