I'm just going to put this in writing, but I found this news site about a fatal accident involving a boarder not wearing a helmet. This is the full article(link at bottom). Please note how fairly recent this article is too. The Johnston High School student who died last week after a longboarding accident was not wearing a helmet, said Lt. Mike Gentosi of the Urbandale Fire Department. "We'll never know what the outcome would be" had Henry "Hank" Evans, 16, worn a helmet, "but the odds of survival with a bike helmet has to be increased when those measures are put in place," said Gentosi, who was on the call. Using a helmet while skateboarding is voluntary in Urbandale, Gentosi said. The accident occurred last Thursday on a bike path off of 75th Circle, on the northern edge of Urbandale. Evans and two other teens were going down the asphalt trail from east to west when they got to a steep hill. It appeared that at that hill, Evans lost control of his longboard, a type of skateboard, and went into a ravine with about a 12-foot drop. The ravine alongside the path was filled with logs and trees, Gentosi said. Because he was going down a hill, it is likely he went into the ravine with some speed, Gentosi said. The ravine is "not super deep," Gentosi said, "but when you couple that with velocity going down the hill and not wearing the helmet, all those things together is kind of the situation that came about." That stretch of path is not unusually dangerous, Gentosi said. Evans had recently finished his sophomore year of high school and played on the school's football team. **moral of the story is to wear your helmet so we can prevent tragedies like these from happening, while it seems as what happened still might have killed him, we won't know because of what did happen. article link: http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/local/johnston/2014/06/01/fatal-longboarding-accident-no-helmets/9839841/
Wear your helmets!
Terrible news. I'm always telling people it's a bad idea not to wear a helmet. It's amazing that people don't listen.
wow that's really sad :c wearing helmets is really so important, I hope people will learn to be more careful
