This could be a very topical approach to discuss the uses of social media with students. Since this article appeared, an ESPN employee was suspended for three weeks for a rant on his podcast about Roger Goodell. (His suspension is longer than Ray Rice's initial suspension for punching his wife.)
Taking a debate over policies to advertisers using social media is a tactic that is becoming more common. Students could research what companies are NFL partners, then look at their social media feeds to see if they have addressed the topic, or if they have been targeted by individuals or groups to protest their NFL support.
This topic would certainly engage most students--from football to make-up, the topics to research are varied enough to give everyone a chance to explore the impact social media can have on public opinion and corporate action.
