Are there internet dialects?

This is so interesting. I personally feel that, yes, there are internet dialects because people communicate differently depending on the platform. I can feel the difference between tumblr, twitter, and even vingle in the way people speak. Reddit is another community I feel has it's own language, LOL. What do you think? Are there internet dialects? Which ones would you consider to be good examples?

Yes!! I have totally different conversations depending on the channel: email and hangout for work, chatting apps for friends and fb chat for reconnecting with less close friends. Twitter is where I spew in less coherent ways....
Definitely! It all goes back to the medium is the message. If my friend gets a facebook message from me they know its probably something dumb, but if they get an email, phone call, or text they know its probably much more serious!
Yeah, for me I change depending on who I am speaking with. On reddit, I find myself being more sarcastic than on other platforms lol

The Class of 2016: This Year's Funniest Graduation Caps
It's that time of year again - time for the senior classmen (and classwomen!) to say their goodbyes and celebrate their accomplishments as they finally receive their diplomas. Let's admit it. Graduation ceremonies, while understandably important, can get a little dull. There's a whole lot of speeches, a whole lot of sitting, and that obligatory watching-every-single-student-walk part. However, grads have gotten creative over the years, keeping things interesting with all sorts of gags - the simplest being the funny designs they put on their graduation caps! Graduation cap humor definitely reflects the times. Check out some of the funniest caps of the graduation season thus far, and then let me know: Are these SO 2016 or what?! "M-Morty, this is - belch - the first day of the r-rest of your life." Shout-out to all those cat ladies gettin' degrees to support their fur babies. Check out Sponge Bob Square Cap over here. This will forever be my favorite quote from 'The Office'. Because Lisa Simpson should be all of our education #goals. He-Man, you the real (heavily bedazzled) MVP. "I solemnly swear I am up to gettin' paid." You can practically hear the mic drop after reading this one. +1 BRIGHT FUTURE! So which one of these were your favorite? What would your graduation cap look like? Let me know in the comments below! (And for more cool and creative caps, check out @HairConfetti's Disney-Inspired Graduation Caps card too!)
Virtual Reality Lets You Hang With Totoro
British VR developers FirePanda have been hard at work the last few years. While most of the anticipation surrounding Virtual Reality has been game-centric, there are other VR developers who understand that there might be people interested in VR, but not in the gaming aspects of it. FirePanda are using VR for larger goals than just games (though they do have a game or two as well). They've used VR as an educational tool, for medical students to get some virtual hands-on practice in a RESUS room. They've also now begun rolling out little VR experiences taken directly from the films of Studio Ghibli. Check out this VR video: If you don't have any kind of VR headset like myself, this is a hard video to watch properly. The VR displays a mirrored image onto both of your eyes, hence the two displays in the video. Without the headset, this is just a strange video. But iconic. Everyone who's an anime fan has seen Totoro, and even if you haven't, you'd be familiar with the rotund spirit. So far, they have VR-d scenes from My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle. My personal favorite is the Howl's Moving Castle one, because the scene they picked is the fields outside of the house from Howl's childhood. That is definitively my favorite setting in the film, and the chance to experience it in VR is astounding to me. I don't have a VR headset yet, but if I ever get one, this is the first thing I'm gonna do. Check out all the anime VR stuff FirePanda has to offer here.
How To Learn A New Language At Home
I've been trying to improve my French recently, and came across these awesome YouTubers called DamonandJo. They have self-taught themselves nearly 6 languages! I believe they speak French, Spanish, Portugese, Italian, German, and of course English! You can either watch the video above (which I suggest cause they have the BEST sense of humor) or check out their tips below: 1. Follow Famous YouTubers in the language you want to learn! There are tons of youtubers in other languages, and often if they are famous enough, there will be english subtitles. Listen to them to hear real people speaking the language rather than a text book! They're usually super entertaining too so it helps :) 2. Follow those YouTubers or famous people on twitter so you see that language each day! The easiest way to get used to a foreign language is to see it all the time and this really helps! 3. Change your phone/facebook/etc language to your desired language! Since you probably already know where everything is in your phone or facebook, you wont be confused and you'll learn a ton of new vocab! 4. Listen to audio books in the language you want!!! Audible has a ton of foreign language books. Try starting with a book you already know well (like Harry Potter for me - I'm trying to read that in Korean right now...) and listen throughout your day! 5. Sign up for foreign magazines or newsletters! Or even better download their app in another language! For example, my boyfriend gets push notification from Le Monde which is a french newspaper :) Even if you only read the headline, its practice. 6. Try cooking a meal using a recipe in a different language! You start to learn that a lot of words you actually already know (for example, sauté means the same thing in french and in korean bokkeum (like bokkeumbap) means fried! so literally "fried rice!" 7. Watch TV shows in the language Duh!!!! 8. Talk to yourself and dont be afraid! Practice speaking whenever you can, even to people who are strangers! be brave! What languages are you trying to learn?!
Underwater Eco-Village Plans Released
Sometimes science and technology boggles my MIND. And today was one of those days. CNN released some incredible images of what Belgian architect Vincent Callebaut is designing and planning, an underwater village he is calling an Aequorea. These 'oceanscrapers' will be constructed using recycled plastics from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. The design has plans for houses, as well as science labs, offices, hotels, sports fields and farms across 250 floors and reach a depth of up to 1,000 meters (3,280 feet). The Ocean is a huge resource too. Desalinated ocean water it will be used for drinking. Micro algae will be used for farming and organic waste. Also, sunlight would be provided through bioluminescence. So far, it's just in the concept and research stage. But other attractions like this have worked across the world, including a hotel in Dubai that has underwater rooms. I couldn't be more excited about these images and the plans. Please excuse me as I sing "Under the Sea" for the remainder of the day. We Have Forgotten How To Learn With Purpose.
What do you think of when you think of learning? Education? Perfect grades? You think success. And it makes sense. People who work hard, who are smart, who do great in school usually go on to become very successful people. And we all think of the same word when we hear successful right... That's right, money. But the problem is, we have forgotten about the beauty of learning, that lesson going in one ear and out the other. And without knowing how to learn, how can you possibly be prepared for the twists and turns of life ? The point of learning isn't to be better then everyone else. Learning isn't to make you wealthy or to climb one rug higher at your job. It's that kind of reasoning that pushes kids away from school. The point of learning is to maintain your dreams, adjust your expectations, adapt to situations and accomplish everything you ever wanted to do, without feeling regret about any of it. I'm reading a book about an astronaut, it's non fiction and the strangest memoir I have ever read. And he said the one reason he loved his job for 20 years was because he never let his love of being an astronaut hinder on weather or not he actually went into space. Sounds crazy right? But it makes sense. He loves space, loves figuring out how things fly and loves learning everything he can about how to be the best astronaut he can be. He did his part, and love every second of the journey. The getting into space part has too many variables out of his control, so why think of it as anything other then a perk? There have, after all, been amazing astronauts who haven't went into space. And it's that attitude that reminds us that learning isn't to only accomplish one goal, it's to prepare yourself for anything, this way you will always find success. So I think it's time we trust the process. We embrace learning not to move up the ladder. a passion for learning, for genuine curiosity will make us into a better person, even if it outwardly effects nothing but our attitude. We need to remember that societies version of "success" and our version of learning doesn't always see eye to eye. So embrace all knowledge, you never know how far it will get you to shooting for the moon. I mean hey, will preparing for one dream you might accidentally discover another along the way! The universe is pretty crazy like that. You live and you learn.
