Pitchfork's Guide to Fall 2014 Releases
Alright, while Pitchfork and I don't always see eye-to-eye, you've got to admit that they are spot-on about upcoming releases. Four times a year, they round up a list of albums, singles, EPs, and DVDs arriving over the coming months and the Fall 2014 list has finally been released! They highlighted 25 "Notable Releases" but, to be honest, I'm only interested in a few. Here are my picks! Caribou - Our Love (10/7) Caribou got me through one too many late night study sessions. The group focuses on steady beats with hooks, hooks, and more hooks. The perfect music to have in the background to keep you awake but not distract you. I'm not going to run and see these guys live any time soon, but I look forward to more mellow jams for late nights. SBTRKT - Wonder Where We Land (10/7) I am looking forward to this album more to hear the influences from all of the collaborators than to actually hear SBTRKT. Vampire Weekend, Jessie Ware, A$AP Ferg, Sampha, Warpaint's Emily Kokal, and Chairlift's Caroline Polachek were involved in this album so there's a good chance it will have an interesting sound. Kindness - Otherness (10/14) I love anything that Robyn touches so this is obviously something I'm looking forward to. Adam Bainbridge uses funky beats with a taste of soul and plenty of brass instruments to give his tracks a retro feel. Really excited for this one! Here are a few releases that weren't featured on the list but are important none-the-less! (You can see the full list of releases with the link I provided) The Kinks: The Essential Kinks (10/14) Because you can't listen to Lola too many times. Haim: "My Song 5" 10" (10/27) I'm not sick of these girls yet, and the My Song 5 remix is so addictive. Theophilus London: Vibes (10/27) Do you know how long I've waited for this?! Too long. Black Milk: If There's a Hell Below (10/28) If you aren't affected by his lyrics you need to turn up to volume a little louder. Great stuff. frYars: Power (11/18) Classy electro with a sense of humor. I'll take more please.
