An elite group of six North Korean exiles gathered in the Netherlands last month to discuss the state of their former regime. Many top diplomates attended this gathering, but the keynote address was given by Jang Jin-sung, reportedly a former key member of Kim Jong-il's propaganda machine. During the speech Jang made a surprising assertion. He stated North Korea is currently in the midst of a civil war. "According to Jang — a former counterintelligence official and poet laureate under Kim Jong-il — members of the government's Organization and Guidance Department (OGD), a powerful group of officials that once reported only to Kim Jong-il, have stopped taking orders from his son, Kim Jong-un. The OGD, Jang says, has effectively taken control of the country, and a conflict is simmering between factions that want to maintain absolute control over the economy and others seeking to gain wealth through foreign trade and a slightly more open market." What can this mean for North Korea?
Man, I wonder how sick he is.
Kim Jung-un is a pretty good leader, he has a gift for his job.
@hunahuna There has been news in recent months that Kim Jung-un has been "missing." This was addressed, apparently he has been making a recovery from ankle surgery but I don't know how much truth there is to that. I'm sure this topic will not be addressed by North Korea, but it is very interesting insight on the troubles the government is facing.
I am not that well versed about the structure of government in NK, but this is surprising to say the least.
