Tennessee Wonderland: Exploring an Abandoned Mountain Neighborhood and Hotel
www.youtube.com1DAA50E1-0355-420D-A1AD-2C244287F3DCCreated with sketchtool.
These pictures and videos, shared by Jordan Lilies, documents the area of Elkmont in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The hotel and homes here were built as early as the 1920s, but were all closed by the early 1990s when the government seized the land. I am not sure why some websites are saying that this land has gone untouched "for 100 years", or that he found something that was lost and hidden away for a long time. That's certainly not true. Still, it's a beautiful area: where can your treks take you? If you do some research, you might be able to find similarly beautiful areas in your area!

An entire neighborhood abandoned?! That sounds so spooky, I wonder if there's a lot of places like this just hiding out in the woods somewhere!
How interesting; it seems like people don't realize that towns get abandoned for a number of reason, even because of gas leaks or concerns about fracking and all that....i've heard of towns being left because of mine fires that wont' go out as well
@mcgraffy Yeah It's really interesting to not only see what's left behind, but also to find out why: it seems weird that people would be willing to leave, but I guess they often don't have the choice, do they? @pixiedust There probably are!
This is so crazy. I was reading about this yesterday. It makes me wonder how many more neighborhoods have been left undiscovered in the American wilderness!
@danidee Yeah, this one has been making its rounds (though totally falsely advertised....it was not abandoned for 100 ears lol!!)
