The October Break: What to Look Forward To & What To Do

As most football followers know, there's no top-tier club football for the next 13 days in most parts of the world. While this is not genuinely a great ideal, the international break does have some interesting games to boot. Here's a look ahead to the football this week: 9th of October England-San Marino Expected to be a blow out (San Marino have only won 1 international ever), it will be interesting to see who and how England line-up. Slovenia-Switzerland Switzerland didn't have a poor showing at the World Cup but are expected to bounce back after their loss to England. Slovenia could be a tricky opponent for them however. Sweden-Russia The marquee match-up of the day. Russia's infertility at the World Cup, with the expectations of being something better, against a Zaltan Ibrahimovic led Sweden who are nothing to snuff at. 10th of October Turkey-Czech Republic Turkey has yet to replicate any quality or form that landed them the bronze at the 2002 World Cup. Despite this they are not a side that will roll over easily and should provide a decent test for a Czech side that is coming off beating the Dutch just a month ago. Wales-Bosnia & Herzegovina Wales are an improving side with a decent lot of players going up against a Bosnian side fresh off their first World Cup appearance. Edin Dzeko will surely star for Bosnia & Herzegovina as the fight for a spot in the Euros. United States-Ecuador Landon Donovan's swan song. While I am not a very big fan of his, LD has been an influential giant for the sport of football in the US. From that magical goal he scored against Algeria in 2010, to his time with David Beckham in LA, and now the MLS all time leading scorer and assist record holder, Donovan is surely due an emotion and well deserved final game. 11th of October Poland-Germany While I think the Finland-Greece game might be worth watching in terms of being a close game, Greek football is general very very dry, very slow, very dull. Germany face a half-decent Poland but it's really about seeing how Germany will rebuild after all the post-World Cup retirements. Philadelphia Union-Columbus Crew & New York Red Bulls-Toronto FC Two HUGE games with MASSIVE play-off implications for all four teams involved. Massive weekend for the MLS with these two games. 13th of October Bosnia-Herzegovina-Belgium The highlight of the Monday-to-Monday week. Two big teams here, the Bosnians well organized against a stacked Belgian squad with Eden Hazard to boost. Should be a cracker.
Sweden - Russia should be a great match, but US - Ecuador should be the better game to watch. I know that it is Donovan's last game so that should make the Americans not want to lose it. Likewise I just cannot see the Ecuadorians losing this game... Considering that the game will be in Hartford, I think it would be really bad emotionally if the US can't pull this out
@spudsy2061 absolutely! so effortless
Yes. Should have been goal of the month. Beautiful strike.
I agree but Ecuador is not to be underrated. Enner Valencia is a world class footballer. That goal he scored against Hull was a blinder.

Love It Or Hate It: Live Sporting Events?
Welcome to the Funny Community game, Love It Or Hate It! This game is really similar to Monday's 'No Good or So Good' food game - except this one deals a lot more with non-food things. Every week, I highlight a different thing that a lot of people either really love or really hate and see how our community feels overall! Last week, I asked you how you felt about SELFIE STICKS. It was an EXTREMELY tight vote, but out of the 60 who gave your opinion, 33 of you said that they're actually kind of useful! Soooo... SELFIE STICKS WIN!!!! This week, I want to know: How do you feel about attending live sports games? Spectator sports have been around since the days of Ancient Greece, but the ones we know and love today came into being in the mid 19th century! The number of Americans that attend at least one live sporting event annually is easily in the tens of millions. However, the amount of them that find said sporting event COMPLETELY BORING is still widely unknown. How do YOU feel about spectator sports? Are they tons of fun or brutally boring?
