Doug Fister and the Washington Nationals stayed alive by beating the Giants 4-1 in San Francisco. Madison Bumgarner made a key error throwing to third on a bunt that started a rally for the Nationals. Bryce Harper then added a solo home run in the 8th to give the Nationals some breathing room. While the Giants once again seemed to pose a threat in the 9th inning, a 4 run lead was too much to overcome. The Giants and Nationals now face off again tomorrow at Pac Bell Park. Ryan Vogelsong will pitch for the Giants while Gio Gonzalez will pitch for the Nats.
