Hideaki Kawashima, a former Buddhist monk turned ethereal portrait painter, is quickly proving to be one of the most reputable stars of Japan's contemporary art scene. Trained by the iconic Yoshitomo Nara and inspired by the low-brow wonderland of Mark Ryden, his portraits of various women are often simple yet all are as haunting as they are beautifully executed. His latest exhibit "Back and Forth" will be on display at Richard Heller Gallery in Santa Monica beginning October 18th.
