This little gem in the heart of Los Angeles is not your average cafe. From social cause to deliciously healthy Mexican food, Homegirl cafe is right on. History - Founded in 2007, the cafe is one segment of Homeboy's six social enterprise, where the mission is to provide intervention for former gang members and high-risk youths. The cafe waitresses are made up of "true" homegirls who went through an "18-month training certificate program that empowers women to support themselves and their families while receiving needed services as they work toward a better life". Cafe - Upon arrival you will notice the atmosphere is really inviting and modern. They have 3 different menus: Breakfast, Lunch, and Saturday Brunch. The design of each is simple, straightforward and descriptive. There's a good selection of Mexican-style light eats, filling meals, teas and coffees. The food portion is generous and the presentation is appetizing. In addition to eating in, they also have a marketplace that allows their customers to purchase baked goods, homemade fruit preserves, and succulent plants. This place can get crowded during lunch and Saturday brunch, but it's worth the wait!
