This tropical fruit originated between southern Brazil and Paraguay. In 1493, Columbus came across this fruit and took it back to Europe. Soon after it was available for the elites and nobles. Around the 1900s, James Dole (the famous pineapple entrepreneur) started a pineapple plantation in Hawaii that earned him the name “King of Pineapple.” To this date, “Dole” is still a major pineapple company.
I’m glad pineapple is readily available in most grocery stores today. All my favorite desserts revolve around pineapple. Every time I visit the “happiest place on earth” (Disneyland) you will find me in the line for the pineapple dole whip. At a fancy restaurant I would order either pineapple sherbet or piña colada. There’s so much more reason to love pineapple. This precious fruit that can take about two years to grow has many health benefits as well.
1) Immune System Support
A pineapple contains 30% of daily recommended value of vitamin C. This water soluble antioxidant helps prevent cell damage and fights free radicals. Apparently after Columbus first found pineapples, they started to be used on ships to prevent scurvy. Now we know why!
2) Helps with digestion
Like many other fruits pineapple contains a good amount of dietary fiber that helps maintaining and keeping your intestine healthy.
3) Aides with common colds and sinus inflammation
Pineapple’s bromelian may help reduce mucus in the throat and nose.

We all know drinking milk can help with strong bones and teeth. Pineapple can also do the same with the high amount of Vitamin C in pineapple juice. The juice can also prevents plaque formation and reduces the risk of periodontal diseases and gingivitis.
5) Reduces hypertension
Potassium is important for our body. It’s an electrolyte helps regulate heartbeat and lower blood pressure.

- For radiant and hydrated skin, mix about 3 tablespoon of freshly crushed pineapples with an egg yolk and a little milk. Apply it topically on the dry skin and leave it for few minutes. Wash off with water and your skin will feel moisturized!
