Apple made some announcements last week at it's live event...some were surprising, others not so much. Here's what some highlights: ----------------- iPad Air 2 ----------------- (see video in slide 2) It is 6.1 millimeters thick, making it 18% thinner than the previous one. It has a 9.7-inch screen size with a reported 56% reduced screen glare. It contains the A8X, a 64-bit chip based on the A8 processor...making the CPU 40% faster than the previous one. They also said its graphics are 2.5x faster and the Air will come with a M8 motion coprocessor similar to the newest iPhones. The camera is also updated to a 8 megapixels iSight camera (f/2.4 aperture, 1080p full HD video). It will also have Touch ID, making it compatible with Apple Pay. Price: $499 for 16GB, $599 for 64GB and $699 for 128GB 4G LTE versions: $629 for 16GB, $729 for 64GB and $829 for 128GB. Pre-orders started 10/17 at http://store.apple.com/us/buy-ipad/ipad-air-2 ----------------- iPad mini 3 ----------------- The iPad mini 3 will have an updated camera (5 megapixels iSight camera, front-facing FaceTime HD camera with Apple's Burst Mode.) It will also have Touch ID. Processor and screen size remains unchanged (A7 chip, M7 coprocessor and 2048 x 1536 pixel display.) There are new colors, including silver, gold and "space" gray. Apple claims it is their fastest iMac to date. I honestly want to go check out the screen myself at the Apple Store...sounds pretty dreamy. I found this announcement the most exciting...even as a non-Mac user.
