Android 5.0 is the biggest update since Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. I'm really excited for it because it has some sweet features! I just hope my Samsung Galaxy S4 will be compatible with it! Here are some standout features: • New Material Design Bold, colorful, responsive UI design consistent across all devices • Notifications There will be new ways to control when and how you receive messages - only get interrupted when you want to be by limiting notifications to certain contacts in priority mode. Incoming phone calls won’t interrupt what you’re watching or playing. You can choose to answer the call or just keep doing what you’re doing Control the notifications triggered by your apps; hide sensitive content and prioritize or turn off the app’s notifications entirely • Battery New battery saver feature that extends device use by up to 90 mins • Security New devices have encryption automatically turned on to help protect data on lost or stolen devices. Also, there is a new Android Smart Lock to secure your phone or tablet by pairing it with a trusted device like your wearable device. If you forget your phone, you still can call any of your friends (or access any of your messages, photos etc.) by simply logging into another Android phone running Lollipop. (so cool!) You can also have a guest pin so other users won't access certain content. • Connectivity Improved internet connection and Bluetooth low energy capabilities. A better internet connection everywhere and more powerful Bluetooth low energy capabilities • ART (Android Runtime) This will improve application performance and responsiveness (up to 4x) with support for 64 bit devices. There will also be support for 64-bit SoCs using ARM, x86, and MIPS-based cores. • Tap & go: instant set up of your new Android phone or tablet by simply tapping it to your old one (requires NFC) • Tap & pay: easily manage multiple payment apps by quickly switching between them The amount of new features is extensive! If you want to read in more detail, I suggest checking the official Lollipop webpage that I linked. I'm excited about Priority Mode and new security features, what about you?
I really hope I can get this update even though I'm not in the US or on my original network! I'm not really even sure how updates typically get sent to your phone anymore..../not a tech girl. @TechatHeart any idea?
This sounds really awesome!! I have the S4 as well but haven' t heard anything about whether or not we will get the upgrade. I guess we'll have to wait and see? I hope the battery saver feature makes it, because I run my battery down pretty fast!!
@TechAtHeart I don't even have a US carrier anymore, so I'll have to find another way!
@hikaymm Whether or not you get the update depends on phone but release date depends on your carrier. Release dates are usually trickled...I know I got my 4.4 update a little later with Sprint.
