In recent years, Highland Park has been gradually going through the stages of gentrification. This shift has brought many new shop, restaurant and small eatery on the trendy street of York Blvd. One of the more recent restaurant, "Ba" made its debut in 2012. Started by the husband and wife duo, Chef James Graham and Sculptor Julia Latané, ran the restaurant with a friendly and sophisticated environment.
"Ba" is specialized in French culinary with a modern kick. The interior designing is decorated with baroque and rich textiles, crystal chandeliers and canvased ceiling. For dinner, I prefer the indoor seating and for Saturday brunch the outdoor patio. The restaurant normally operates during lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. This is not the place to go if you are not lenient with trying something different. Their menu alters daily and your favorite dish might not be available on certain days. The reason is they handpick all their ingredients daily and pick up groceries from local farmer's market to ensure quality and freshness.
My favorite dish is the Mushroom Brûlée, Quiche, and Burrata and Heirloom Appetizer (made with heirloom tomato, grilled peach, and burrata). Not sure if Burrata and Heirloom Appetizer is still available because I had it over summer. Their other dishes to try is Steak Frites (Steak and fries) and Duck Confit.
The seating is limited, so reservations are usually made beforehand. However, the last time I went on a Friday (around 5:30pm) I was fortunate to grab a table for three. So, I would suggest you to reserving online/by phone or visit during opening hours.
Overall, this is a great place for a small group of friends, couples, and small familes to mingle and eat.
