Instagram Artist Defaces National Parks
Casey Nocket is a self proclaimed Instagram artist that takes to National Parks to display her works. Nokcet's work isn't as terrible as graffiti; the only unfortunate thing is that she paints her work with acrylic paints on various rocks in National Parks. According to her Instagram feed, Nocket has been traveling quite extensively – she has photos tagged from all over the West, including stops in Carrizo Plain National Monument, Sequoia, Bryce, Zion, Grand Staircase-Escalante, Grand Canyon, Canyonlands, Rocky Mountain and Joshua Tree National Parks. I'm all for art, even installation art in various places. I even have loved some installation art that wasn't technically allowed to exist. The problem I have with the art is that it is (relatively) permanent and can't be easily moved. If she wanted to leave a painting on canvas in the parks, whatever. If she wanted to write in chalk on the rocks, I wouldn't like it but it's not the end of the world. But acrylic paint? That's just disrespectful.

Yuck, a lot of art materials are really toxic even for humans. I can't imagine what effects a trend like this would have of local plants and wildlife.

Oh, this really makes me feel upset. I'm all for art in unusual places, but these are National Parks for a reasons. They are precious, precious things that we should protect. Nature's Art cannot be remade or replaced!

The only appropriate thing to happen here is for this woman to be detained, and taken to each of her artworks and scrape every fleck of paint off those National treasures
