Awesome news for comics fans, Comics Literacy Awareness, a non-profit organization in the UK promoting children’s literacy has named their first ever Comics Laureate! The title went to Dave Gibbons who if you didn’t know is the co-creator of Watchmen. Yeah, kinda a big deal. Gibbons was also the lead artist for Doctor Who Monthly, and he’s worked on Green Lantern, The Flash, The Brave and the Bold and just a ton of awesome stuff. This is the first time any laureate title has gone to a comics artist and it’s really awesome for the industry to be recognized like this. So many people still think comics are for kids or somehow not series like books of “films” when they’re just another way to tell any kind of story you want, including really artistic ones!
