Open This Week: "I know I came into this room for a reason" – Josh Faught at Kendall Koppe, Glasgow
In American artist Josh Faught's first solo exhibit in the UK, the artist introduces his audience to the 'double weave', a type of woven coverlet that has been popularly used in his home state of Missouri since the 19th century. However, this is far from just a fashion show for blankets, as Faught has found a way to use them to create narratives around its role and aesthetic, including anxious decoration, displaced social codes, and material constructions of self. Each work is hand-woven by Faught, who puts special consideration into the colors used and the context behind them. The various buttons, scrap paper, and other unconventional ornaments involved pull you away from its intended use and draw you further into the story. It takes your mind from the coverlets to the people who owned them, the house it stayed in, the climate under that roof.

@galinda I really thought it was interesting too. One of my favorite things about contemporary are is when the things that look so literal end up having such a multifaceted story behind them.
