Fox recently released the teaser for it's newest TV drama, Empire. Empire stars Taraji P. Henson as Cookie Lyon, the ex-wife of Lucious Lyon (played by Terrence Howard), who heads the hip-hop record label at the center of the series. The inner workings of the hip hop industry is often more enticing than the music itself, so I hope that this show does it some justice. Based off of real-life hip hop empires built by the likes of Dr. Dre and Jay-Z, we will see how record labels in the hip hop world are about so much more than just music. Empire premieres in January 2015 on Fox.
This sounds so interesting @caricakes! I really know nothing bout hip hop music or culture, so this may be a fun way to learn a bit. Hip hop and rap have been such an integral part of American culture I hope this will make it accessible for people like me who don't now very much.
