I love Colbert! He brought Anita Sarkeesian on the show to talk about Gamegate. For those of you who don't know, she and other women have been harassed online and getting death threats for advocating for a more gender inclusive gaming environment. I'm not a gamer myself, but I wholeheartedly agree with her: woman are oversexualized in video games. Not only that, but the video game culture is male dominated and it shouldn't be that way. Girls can be gamers and video game developers too! What do you all think about the latest gamergate situation? I find it so crazy that Anita was threatened for wanting to give a talk, so unnecessary and insane! Gamergate is a disgrace to the community and to us consumers. This has been a long time coming and while the fight will be long and difficult, it is very much needed.

@Spudsy2061 @TechAtHeart Just as with any story, there are two sides to both. Yes, a few terrible people have done awful things like making threats. This is not representative of gamers in general. #GamerGate was started on the topic of collusion and scandal in video game journalism. For instance, 11 articles were released with the same title on the exact same day from all different sources, "Gamers are dead" they said. As a gamer, I am deeply offended by the accusation that I am a misogynistic nerd that deserves to be bullied.

I can agree that there is stereotyping of both genders, not only in video games but in movies and TV shows as well. The arguments Anita makes are engrained in the very cliches we latch onto as society. As for stereotyping of females in video games, the same can be said for male characters. Women are sexualized in skimpy clothes, made out to be damsels, and in many instances are weak. Men are impossibly muscular, made to do impossible things, and do things that will most certainly end in their death.

I am for GamerGate in the sense that it has nothing to do with the portrayal of either gender. I am for GamerGate to secure journalistic integrity for something that I love and spend a good deal of money on. If they continue like this then I'll just stop supporting them just like Mercedes and other sponsors have stopped after they supported bullying gamers.
