Hayao Miyazaki, animator, writer, and director responsible for the Oscar winning Spirited Away will be awarded an honorary Oscar this coming weekend. Miyazaki, now a ripe old 73, is retiring from making full length films, but has said he will continue to animated for the rest of his life. He is currently spending his retirement producing animated short films that are shown exclusively at the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo, Japan. Miyazaki’s stories are inspired and I remember when I was first introduced to them by a friend of mine. He really knows how to capture the magic of the worlds he creates and I love the way he tells stories that are interesting but honest from a child’s perspective.

One of the most well-deserved Oscar Awards I've seen. Miyazaki is truly a legend and a master!
