INSPIRITS I have some hard and sad news. Hoya has officially left Woollim and Infinite. This is heart breaking news and its hard for me to take this in. They explained that while discussing contract renewals in June, he decided to take another path to pursue his dreams, and the company and members decided to respect his decision. “As it was a careful decision that had to be made, a lot of time was spent for consideration,” they continued. Woollim revealed, “With the exception of Hoya, INFINITE members Kim Sunggyu, Jang Dongwoo, Nam Woohyun, Lee Sungyeol, L, and Lee Sungjong have completed contract renewals. The agency is working on reorganizing as a six-member group, and we plan on actively supporting their group and individual activities as we are now.” They ended, “Lastly, we ask for your unchanging support for the futures of the six members of INFINITE and Hoya.” This is from soompi, read full article click here, but a sad moment right now. Lets just all keep with INFINITE and send Hoya lots of love as he moves forward with his dreams. I support him with everything and even though this hurts right now, I know it's going to get better. With love Hoya. Why Don't Idol Groups Work In America?
In Japan and Korea, idols are a huge deal. The fandoms surrounding idols and idol groups are massive, with a ton of merch, lingo, events, etc surrounding the entertainers. So why isn't that happening in America? The UK tried it out with One Direction and we have a few girl groups like Fifth Harmony and Little Mix, but for the most part the classic pop group ensemble faded away in the early 2000s. Here are a few reasons why it might not work: I'm not saying either opinion is correct - just stating how the general public views celebrities in America vs Korea/Japan. I'm not an expert on either so please share your opinions as well! 1. The Concept of Being An Idol Sure, celebrities in the US know that they are role models, but do they really take this as their job?! In Japan and Korea, a single slip up can mean public humiliation (such as when an AKB48 member had a boyfriend - she had to shave her head as an apology) while in America celebrities insist on their personal rights to do whatever they want. In their opinion, just because you're a celebrity doesn't mean you aren't allowed a personal life. They should be able to be in the lime light but also have a lot of personal life that shouldn't be judged by the public, In Japan/Korea, every aspect of an entertainers life is analyzed and people know that is just part of the job. You must be a model citizen at all times and any bad behaviour (whether its on or off camera) is bad for your company, your career, and your fans. 2. Company Loyalty In America, we know the big companies like Warner, Sony, etc, but we rarely pay attention to what label each artist is on. And even if they're on the same label they don't really work together so its hard for fans to be loyal to one company. The closest I think we can get to that is waaay back with Motown Records or more recently the bands that came out on Fueled By Ramen. Smaller hip hop labels still keep this group style too! We could actually see the connection the artists had on those labels and could support the label as well as the artists. Now in Korea, we all know that companies are a big deal. YG Family, JYP, Cube, SM, etc. They do things together like concerts, Christmas songs, etc. We are able to anticipate the company's new project or collaboration. It's easier for the fans to get hyped over multiple groups at once. 3. Pre-Packaged In America, bands are usually put together by the band members. Whether they start in a garage or they put up flyers to find members, it is the band that forms first, then the label that signs them. In Korea and Japan however, we have a TON of trainees all hoping to be perfectly placed in a group. Think of the show Produce! Perfect example of prepackaging :) One Direction is an example of that happening where the boys were somewhat put together by a label, but musical and personality differences got in the way :/ 4. Training Idols train a LOT. Sure, in America entertainers practice, train, get vocal lessons, learn new instruments, get prepped for interviews etc but they are not forced to practice for 12 hours a day. Living in dorms without cell phones or internet, being forced to learn languages, dances, public speaking, etc - its totally normal in the idol world. Because of this, idols should be pretty prepared for anything. I'm not so sure American entertainers would be up for this style of training. Can you think of other reasons why the "idol" style of the music industry doesn't work in America?
Things To Say To Our Idols On Twitter, Instagram, etc.
안녕하세요! So, I've been on Twitter and for the past few days, I've been seeing fans replying to idols' tweets, saying, "F*** me." or "Daddy." I think this is extremely disrespectful to our lovely, hard-working idols. Here are some nice things to say to our idols on Twitter and Instagram. ^^ (This ___ means someone's name goes there! ^^) ___ 사랑해. (I love you, ___.) 화이팅! (Fighting!) ___ 힘내. (“___, I support you." or "___, feel better.”) ___ 힘내고 사랑해. (___, feel better. I love you.) 항상 응원해. (I support you always.) ___, 생일축하해요. (Happy birthday, ___.) 건강하고 행복하세요. 좋은날을지내요. 사랑해요. (Always stay happy and healthy. Have a good day. I love you.) 이런 소문에 휩쓸려 맘아파하지말아요.사실이 아닌걸알아요.우리가 항상 뒤에있을께요. 힘내요, 알았지요? (Please don't let rumors get to you. We know they're fake. We're always here to support you guys. Keep your heads up, okay?) 본인을잘챙겨주세요. 힘들게노력하는것을알고있으니까 많이 걱정하기도하지만 뿌듯해요. 당신이 건강하고 행복할때 우리팬들도 가장행복해요. (Please take care of yourselves, we know you work very hard and this makes us both very proud and worried. Your fans are happiest when you are happy and healthy.) 기쁨가득한날을 보냈으면 좋겠어요. 많이사랑해요. 건강하고 많이쉬세요. (I hope you have a wonderful day full of joy. I love you very much. Stay healthy and rest lots!)
Yoseob Responds To Hyunseung's Apology?
Three days ago Hyunseung from Beast posted a very long apology about his behavior towards the end of his time as a member of Beast: “During the past seven years, as part of BEAST before I left the group, I received a lot of love,” he wrote. “Since I was young, I thought that the people who sing and dance on TV were really cool, so I embraced my big dream and trained for five years. Through a good opportunity, I was able to debut as BEAST with my members. After debuting, it seemed like I’d realized my dream, but while promoting there were things I was uncomfortable with and a thirst for music that couldn’t be resolved. Rather than focusing on group promotions and building teamwork, I was stubborn about my own affairs. Even when I listened to what other people had to say, I’d immediately focus again on my own stubbornness and pride, so I made it hard for my members and the other people around me. The wall between me and the members built up slowly and instead of choosing harmony, I chose to grow distant.I slowly lost the ability to control myself and showed bad attitude in public, including on stage. I thought that immature image of myself was me enjoying my youth. I thought all that was me being cool. Now that I look back on it, I am deeply regretful. It was difficult for me to say that I was sorry because of my stubbornness and needless pride. But after leaving the group, I experienced a lot of things and went through a hard time. After laying down my pride, I could finally hit the floor that I was stubbornly holding out from, and from that floor I came to a realization and became free. I have only given scars to other people. I now understand how my carelessness and selfish decisions hurt other people so I really want to say I’m sorry to those people. I’m sorry.” translation via soompi! He posted a photo on Instagram along with this apology, and his photo is on the right. Yeoseob, his former group member, posted the photo on the left yesterday with no caption. It was deleted soon after it was posted. Notice how its the same location, just different times? Some people are saying its a coincidence and Yoseob was just catching the awesome looking cloud, but personally the fact that its SO similar (and the Han river is really big so the chances of him taking it at almost the exact same spot is pretty rare considering how long with bridge is) makes me think its intentional. Yoseob was the one who actually introduced Hyunseung to Cube so they have a very special connection (other than being group mates for so long and being friends regardless of career dream differences) So to me, I see this as an acceptance of Hyunseung's apology, and I hope the boys all feel a little more at peace.
EXO To Debut in Japan: Who Has The Best Japanese Singles?
So I just heard that EXO is debuting in Japan... "According to music officials on August 25th, preparations for EXO’s debut Japanese album is underway, however, the release date has not been set though it is highly possible that they will release it at the end of the year." And it got me thinking about all the Kpop/Jpop crossovers that I LOVE. Below I listed my four favorite Japanese tracks by Korean artists that you MUUUUUST listen to. Big Bang - Koe wo Kikasete I love all of Big Bang's Japanese singles - mainly because I was in Japan when they first debuted and I had to convince my host family that Kpop was the next big thing. For some reason though, this is the song I love the most. It's a gorgeous video plus just a gorgeous track! Infinite - She's Back (Japanese Version) I'm usually not a huge fan of Japanese remakes (I prefer original Japanese songs) because the Japanese lyrics tend to not fit will with the beat that was written for the Korean words. For some reason though, I really, really like the Japanese version of She's Back. Hoya's rap is amaaaaazing. TVXQ - Why Did I Fall in Love With You? I will always be a TVXQ 5EVER Cassiopeia. I honestly can't bring myself to listen to the new TVXQ stuff because these five boys are the reason I got into Kpop in the first place. TVXQ were the first Koreans to really break into the Jpop scene. They had to start back at the bottom of the food chain and were treated like rookies and nobodies because, in Japan, they were! Now it's easy for Kpop groups to make Japanese debuts and that is all thanks to the suffering of TVXQ. I seriously love these boys to pieces and just listening to this song makes me want to cry for them. This song is heart breaking, beautiful, and shows just how talented the members of TVXQ really are. TVXQ - Stand By U I studied Japanese for two years and this was one of the first songs I listened to where I actually understood every word. This is another heartbreaking song that takes my breath away. I'm not really a ballad person when it comes to Kpop but something about Japanese ballads makes me so happy. I could also add B1A4's Japanese singles (but not their Japanese remakes cause the Japanese just sounds awkward LOL), SNSD, and CN Blue to the list!!! I want to get back into studying Japanese so send me tracks to listen to! List your favorites in the comments: Also just a shameless VIXX promotion but they just dropped a new PV...
