Everyone has those moments of feeling insecure, but all-in-all I am very comfortable in my own skin. At first, I thought I just naturally got over my awkward teen years and learnt to accept myself, but looking back I can see how simple changes in my attitude made all the difference. I found a list on Thought Catalog that gave five tips to accepting yourself, and I'd like to add my thoughts as well: 1. Accept and embrace yourself – YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! You've probably heard this a thousand times from your mom, TV set, a teacher, WHOEVER - self confidence is the key to looking and feeling your best. You are beautiful not when you're dressed up or wearing makeup - but when you are truly confident in yourself. This is probably the hardest tip there is and only comes with practice. Even if you aren't confident in what you're doing...fake it 'til you make it! 2. Confidence is personal strength Like I just said, self-confidence is difficult. It isn't something that just happens, it takes practice, courage, and most of all inner strength. Beauty is far beyond skin deep and you need to have the inner strength to realize you're beautiful. That belief can only come from buying into your own hype. If you don’t tell yourself how amazing you are, why would you believe others think this of you as well? Change that today by coming up with your own self-confident mantra! 3. Do not rely on others to feel good about yourself There neither is, was, or ever will be someone like you. You can't be compared to anyone else on earth. Don't wait for someone to tell you you're beautiful. You need to KNOW you're beautiful! It is great to hear positive things from others, but you need to be able to have your confidence without anyone else. It is how you feel about yourself, and how you carry yourself is ultimately more important than how you look. 4. Your mind is a powerful tool – use it! It isn’t until you accept yourself and change your mindset that you can truly start moving in the right direction, and positive change will follow. The strength to accept yourself comes from knowing your own importance. The body you want is only possible through the body you’ve got. Loving it, accepting it and treating your whole body with love, from head to toe, is essential to being sexy. So embrace the face and body you’ve got, in all its sexy glory, so you can move towards a positive outlook on life and confident persona. 5. Be each others’ biggest fan I seriously worry that people think that my friends and I a totally narcissistic. We are constantly telling each other how funny, cute, or smart the other is. This attitude, however, doesn't always translate to strangers. Walking down the street even I know I have the tendency to compare myself to other girls (there seems to be an “us against them” struggle between “overweight” and “skinny” people) but it needs to stop! Empowering other women starts a domino effect. The more you do it, the more you empower yourself.
I wish everyone thought this way and live by these words but acquiring such attributes will be challenging and difficult. I think it's in our nature to feel self doubt and to have securities but these inner struggles is what we draw strength from in order to improve ourselves. I love your advice and they are the exact same words I try to practice daily b/c no one can change how you feel abt yourself but you....thank you so much for sharing this card!!
This advice is so important, but so challenging to feel deep inside! Maybe just consciously doing it a lot helps to internalize it.
@kandi2559wolfe Thank you, that is great advice!
Here's a tip I tried. It may seem, awkward at first, but it honestly works with a bit of time & belief! Every morning, at midday, and before going to bed at night look at yourself in a mirror & say ," I LOVE YOU______„YOU ARE AMAZING!";) Say it three times , three times a day for three weeks!! Bet you will see a HUGE difference! Peace...
#3 & #4 are so important...having a healthy mindset is everything
