Wow! I just watched the trailer for the new live-action Cinderella movie, and I am so pleasantly surprised! Just judging from the trailer, it looks like the movie has an impressive amount of depth and emotion. The cast is wonderful: Cate Blanchett, Lily James, Richard Madden, and Helena Bonham Carter. I also love the theme emphasizing kindness - so rare in movies! The tagline on the trailer posting is "Have courage and be kind."
I was a little skeptical before, since I had only seen posters with the slipper and nothing else, but now I'm so excited!
Here are People Magazine's take-aways from the trailer, including the connections to other movies!
"1. Cate Blanchett is downright scary.
The Oscar-winner portrays Cinderella's evil stepmother, Lady Tremaine – and does so quite convincingly! Not surprising is that like the ever-fashionable Blanchett herself, her character is impeccably dressed in some truly spectacular costumes throughout the trailer.
2. Rose from Downton Abbey plays Cinderella.
You may recognize Cinderella as the outspoken cousin from the Emmy-nominated British period drama. Now, Lily James has completely transformed into the title character, looking like she's popped right out of a storybook.
3. Helena Bonham Carter is playing the anti-Bellatrix.
While many would have guessed Bonham Carter would be playing the evil stepmother, the actress was actually cast as the Fairy Godmother (though we do get a glimpse of her looking like a frightening old lady in the trailer).
4. Glass slippers are surprisingly comfortable – who knew?
At least, according to Bonham Carter's Fairy Godmother's assurances to Cinderella as she transforms her rags into a breathtaking gown with a twirl of her magic wand.
5. Helena Bonham Carter isn't the movie's only tie to the Harry Potter films.
The movie is directed by Kenneth Branagh, who played Professor Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
6. This isn't the first time Prince Charming has wielded a sword on screen.
Richard Madden – and his swoon-worthy blue eyes – played Robb Stark on Game of Thrones (until he was killed during the infamous "Red Wedding" episode)."
I really like their observations - I'm so excited about Rose from Downton, and I always enjoy Cate Blanchett. Helena Bonham Carter is a big favorite of mine, so I love seeing her as a good-doing blonde. I almost didn't recognize her! She is really one of the most versatile actresses out there.
